A Few More Fall Items!

I guess this isn’t much of a preview, since we are already halfway through October, where does the time go!  I was on vacation two weeks ago, and have been under the weather ever since returning, so it has been awhile since my last post.  More to come later on the trip!  I want to show a few more of my favorite fall items and trends.  Many of you may live where it is already chilly, but we were still in shorts and sandals here in North Carolina until Michael passed through.  I have mixed feelings – I love summer and hot weather, but am excited to wear some of the new fall items I have picked up!  We are a long way from sweaters and coats though, and that is fine with me.

I love this field jacket I picked up at Old Navy.  It is a great weight for fall here, and will go with a lot.  I haven’t needed it yet, but I suspect I will pull it out within the next couple weeks.  It comes in a few colors, but I bought the olive shown above.  Several colors are on sale, but not all, but the price is still very affordable, and this is a great transition piece no matter where you live.  It runs a bit small, so if you order online, you might want to size up.  I was in the store, they didn’t have the olive, but I tried on a different color to determine what size I needed, and then ordered it when I got home.  The waist has a drawstring, so you can pull it in and not look so boxy.  Field jackets AND olive are both big fall trends, so this fits the bill all the way around.

Mustard yellow is also a big color for this season.  I have this shirt I purchased earlier in the summer from Loft, and have been saving it for the fall, because I felt like the color just exuded autumn.  I love the flutter sleeve detail.  The fabric very soft and flowy.  For cooler weather, this would look great underneath a denim jacket.

I bought this shirt last week at a local boutique, BohoBlu.  This was a warehouse sale item so is not available on their website, but bell sleeve tops continue to be very popular.  That’s a good thing, because I have several I have bought over the past year or so!  This one is also a very soft fabric, and will be a great top to pull out for dinner out when it’s chilly this fall.

One more item I have been wanting, but have not yet purchased, is a plaid waterfall vest, similar to below.  This particular one is from the Cato Fashions website, but I have seen them at other retailers as well.  I’m undecided what color scheme I want, so I plan to hit a few stores to see what I can find that will coordinate with other items I already own.  I think this could be worn over a long sleeve knit t-shirt, a turtleneck, a denim shirt, or even a fitted sweater.  Add some booties, or even riding boots, and you’ll have a great, classic looking fall outfit.  Plaid never goes out of style if worn correctly – it doesn’t have to look like a lumberjack!

I hope this gave you some ideas for some fall pieces you may not have already purchased.  I’ll be showing some of my favorite fall outfits in the coming weeks, as we finally are getting cool enough weather to wear them!  Have a great week everyone!

FALL SHOE PREVIEW!!!

Fall is coming, how many of you are excited?  I am a summer person all the way.  There is nothing wrong with fall, and I certainly enjoy aspects of it, but if we could go back to summer once fall is over, I would be 100% on board with that.  That being said, I have enjoyed shopping, both in store and online, and researching some popular trends for fall.

I’m going to focus this post on fall shoes.  There are so many great ones, I thought they deserve a story all their own!  As it is almost October (because I have fallen hopelessly behind), you may have already purchased some new footwear for the season.  But maybe you will be inspired to take one more look!

Good news for me, boots aren’t going anywhere soon.  Tall boots, over-the-knee boots, short boots, ankle boots, lace-up boots, you name it, they are still going to be a staple this year.  One of my personal favorite styles is riding boots.  I have pair by Jessica Simpson, I’ve had them several years; they have held up well and are comfortable.  They go with jean, leggings, and dresses, so I get a lot of wear out of them.  I really like the looks of this pair by Sam Edelman.

I love Frye boots, like the ones above, but don’t always love the price. Thankfully there are many more affordable options, like the ones below from Belk.

Booties of course are still going strong, and also versatile.  They go great with skinny jeans and dresses as well.  Booties could almost be a whole post on their own, so check out some of the styles, I’m sure you can find something that works with your own style and wardrobe.  Here and here are a couple examples of versatile booties that would go with most anything.  The options are almost endless though, so don’t be afraid to try something a little fun.  I have a pair similar to these, (also shown below) and I like that they give a little edge to an outfit without looking too crazy.

Gift Platform Bootie

Another style that is HUGE this fall is slides or mules.  I personally have not purchased a pair yet, but it is on my to-do list within the next couple of weeks.  I’ve been trying to find a neutral pair I like, and I think I have narrowed it down.

I’m not a fan of the pink, but this pair from Target is cute and affordable.  Pink is almost considered a neutral nowadays, so this might be a good option for someone.  They also come in black, so I will keep them in mind as well.

This pair shown above is one of my top contenders from DSW, and affordable too.

Leopard print on anything, especially shoes, is also extremely popular this fall. It isn’t my personal taste, but I like the look on others.

I hope this post has inspired you to go fall shoe shopping! Stay tuned for an upcoming post about some of the fall clothing trends and my own purchases for the new season. Happy Shopping!

Super Soft Shirt

I love this super soft top I purchased at a local boutique I recently discovered called BohoBlu.  It’s a pale pinkish/purplish color with a heathered look, and I love the tie in the front, this is a big trend that seems to be continuing into fall.  You’ll see in the picture below the back also has some detail.  I like to look for comfortable tops that have some detail to keep them from being boring but still easy to wear and cool for hot weather here in NC.  I could have just thrown on a plain tank top or t-shirt, but having a top with some detail gives a simple outfit some style and interest.  I like that this one has the longer back as well, it pairs nicely with these Hue jeggings.  I am allowed to wear jeans to work, but in the summer jeans are so hot and I mostly wear dresses, but these jeggings are very lightweight and much more suitable for summer weather.  I like the layered necklace with this top too, the shorter one fills in the neckline and the longer one breaks up the solid color of the top.

How cute is the back of this top!

BohoBlu is a local boutique, with a focus on being affordable.  Boutique shopping can often be out of budget, but not at BohoBlu.  They carry many dresses, tops, accessories, and skirts/pants.  They have 6 locations, with a couple being near me, and I had been past them many times but never stopped in.  One day at work I decided to walk to the downtown location at lunch and check them out, and I am so glad I did.  I had a hard time choosing just a couple items to purchase.  If you are in the Piedmont Triad area, look them up and see if there is a location near you.  If you are not in this area, check out their website.  I’m looking forward to a few new fall pieces from BohoBlu.  They also carry curvy sizes, so please don’t think boutique shopping is only for the smaller sizes.

Have a good weekend!

Still Summer?

Ok, Ok, I know, most of you are saying summer is over.  And, I know I promised a fall preview post.  It has been so hot here in North Carolina that I haven’t been able to focus much on fall.  I have however been working on the fall preview; there is so much I want to cover that I want to make sure it’s interesting content and has good links to some of the popular items.  So I am doing a post today on summer dresses instead.  I love love love dresses in the summer; I have worn a dress to work almost every day.  Not because I have to, but because they are so much cooler and more comfortable than pants when it’s 92 degrees with 70% humidity!  And wearing a dress makes picking out an outfit so effortless – pick your accessories and you are out the door.

I also want to highlight summer dresses because they are all on sale now!  It is a great time to stock up on items for next summer at great prices.  Put them away and then next summer it will be fun to pull out a bunch of new stuff, knowing you got great bargains.

Love the detailed hem on this dress!

I love this blue dress from Belk.  The halter neckline, the design in the fabric, and the handkerchief hem all give this dress some interest.  I picked this up last fall on clearance and saved it for this year.

I love both of these flowered dresses from Loft.  The orange one on the left is from last year and sadly no longer available.  It looks really nice on and could definitely be worn for church, a nice dinner, or to a dressier workplace.  The blue dress on the right has such great colors.  I wore it the other day and chose to accent the pink with some tassel earrings and pink leather wrap bracelet.  It is still available here but the sizes are limited.

I love this white dress from Loft with the detail on the neckline.  The colors are navy blue and a brighter blue.  I accented with navy but if you had jewelry/purse/shoes etc that matched the brighter blue it would be stunning.  The dress is fully lined so you don’t have to worry about it being too thin since it is white, and the white is so crisp and cool for summer.

Lastly, here is another blue floral dress, also from Loft.  Are you noticing a pattern here?  I love Loft dresses and also the color blue!  This one is available but again in limited sizes.

The other great thing about these dresses is they can transition into fall by adding a cardigan, denim jacket, moto jacket, blazer, duster, or anything else of your choosing to stand up to cooler temperatures.  Swap the sandals for booties or stylish sneakers and you are ready to go.  Loft, Old Navy, Belk, and many others have great sales on summer dresses right now.

Happy Bargain Hunting!

Mossy Knoll on the left, Foggy Morning on the right

So I had another post ready to go today, but then had a change of plans; this post is a little lengthy but please bear with me, it is worth the read.  I want to highlight a local company that offers beautiful handmade bracelets, Average Day Designs.  Allow me to give you the backstory that led to this post.  I follow many local businesses on social media, and happened across Average Day Designs one day and decided to follow them.  Later I took a few moments to browse their bracelets, and really liked the look of them.  A couple days later, I saw a post from them with a promo code for a discount for buying 2 bracelets, so I went shopping on their site.  I was looking for some good fall colors and decided on Foggy Morning and Mossy Knoll.  I added them to my cart and attempted to apply the promo code, but no discount showed on my total.  I tried a couple times and figured there was a glitch and I would come back later and try again.  As so often happens, I got busy and never remembered to do it.  A day or so later, I received an email telling me there was a website glitch with the promo code and I would be receiving both bracelets for free.  Imagine my surprise when, a few days later, a padded envelope showed up in the mail with both bracelets and a lovely handwritten note from the owners, Felicia and Kristen, thanking me for visiting their website and apologizing for the issue.  They even included a coupon for a discount off a future purchase.  I was so surprised and amazed at the customer service offered by Average Day Designs.  I have a professional background in retail at the corporate level, and fully understand how customer service can earn or lose a customer in the blink of an eye.  Felicia and Kristen GET IT.  They were certainly under no obligation to give me, or anyone else affected by the glitch, anything for free, and the bracelets were not compensation for this post.  I asked their permission after the fact to feature their company on my blog and social media because I was so impressed.

Notice the little gold charm, it is their company logo and has the name on the reverse side
The charm on Foggy Morning is silver

The other amazing thing about these ladies is they use their company to do good works as well.  They are involved with World Relief, an organization that aids victims of human trafficking, as well as many other humanitarian efforts around the globe.  Average Day Designs donates $1 of every bracelet sold to World Relief, and the owners are involved with the organization on a personal level also.

If you are in the Piedmont Triad area, their bracelets are carried in a few local boutiques – I’m sure if you message them through social media or their website they can point you to the exact locations.  And of course you can order online.  Their bracelets are very affordable and very good quality.  Please take a moment and check them out, here is another link.

Thank you for reading, and please remember to sign up for email alerts when there is a new post!
