Friday Favorites

Hey y’all, I want to start a Friday series, called Friday Favorites, where I highlight a few things that are currently on my “favorites” list.  I don’t want to limit this to apparel or fashion items, I want to talk about whatever strikes me at the moment!  This week I want to talk about local businesses I have discovered and enjoy browsing.

I have posted about these bracelets before, but I’m still loving my handmade bracelets from Average Day Designs.  They are a company local to where I live, and the bracelets come in so many colors and designs, anyone could find something they like.  They are getting ready to roll out a line of necklaces, and I am so excited! I also noticed recently they had a couple of men’s options – I almost ordered one for my husband but wasn’t sure he would be into wearing jewelry, lol!  Maybe I will see if I can win him over.  See my previous post on these bracelets here for more information.

One local boutique I really like is Threads.  They don’t have a website but are on Facebook.  They do a weekly series called Trending Tuesday, the videos highlight items in the store and are entertaining as well!  I’ve only recently discovered them, but have already purchased a few items.  They have affordable prices, and a good selection of casual and trendy items, in both missy and curvy sizes. I purchased the blue top below a few weeks ago, and I love the ever-popular off the shoulder style. The angled hem and tassels make this piece very eye catching.

Also from Threads is this ombré purple/mauve top, again with the trendy tassels and uneven hemline. I purchased the matching leggings as well, to give me another option besides jeans with this shirt. The photo lighting distorts the colors a bit, but the leggings really do match! The top was actually on a 50% off rack, so it pays to browse the sale items even at a boutique.

I love this casual top, also from Threads, with the fun saying on the front. I wore this with some joggers last weekend and was 100% comfortable and cozy. The top is a super soft t-shirt weight and has the cold-shoulder cutouts, so I probably won’t wear it once it gets really cold, but it’s perfect for a lazy, casual fall weekend. I do not subscribe to the thinking that over 40 means no more graphic tees!

The other local boutique I have begun to frequent is BohoBlu. They also offer unique, boutique shopping at affordable prices. They have a website so if you aren’t in the Triad, you can still check out their items online, and they also carry missy and curvy sizes.

I bought this dress at BohoBlu; I absolutely love these colors for fall. I bought the leggings at Threads, so this dress can carry me into the winter as well. It is super comfortable while still looking stylish enough for work or to go out.

You can probably tell I like comfortable clothing! I do not like to spend my day tugging and pulling at my clothes because they are uncomfortable. Being stylish is important to me (most days anyway😂) but not at the expense of being miserable. I bought this last top at BohoBlu; once I tried it on I was in love. It is so soft, and has an oversized, slouchy fit, and will be perfect for a chilly weekend day. It is actually a very pale green, which didn’t translate well in the photo. I’ll likely wear this with some plain black leggings, or maybe even skinny jeans if I’m going somewhere more exciting than the grocery store! I’m almost, but not quite, looking forward to a chilly day so I can wear this top!

I always thought boutique and local shopping meant expensive, but that does not have to be the case! All 3 of these businesses offer style at an affordable price, and support my local community as well. It’s a win-win!

Next week I’ll be rambling about something different in the Friday Favorites series, so please come back and check it out. Thanks for stopping by!

A Few More Fall Items!

I guess this isn’t much of a preview, since we are already halfway through October, where does the time go!  I was on vacation two weeks ago, and have been under the weather ever since returning, so it has been awhile since my last post.  More to come later on the trip!  I want to show a few more of my favorite fall items and trends.  Many of you may live where it is already chilly, but we were still in shorts and sandals here in North Carolina until Michael passed through.  I have mixed feelings – I love summer and hot weather, but am excited to wear some of the new fall items I have picked up!  We are a long way from sweaters and coats though, and that is fine with me.

I love this field jacket I picked up at Old Navy.  It is a great weight for fall here, and will go with a lot.  I haven’t needed it yet, but I suspect I will pull it out within the next couple weeks.  It comes in a few colors, but I bought the olive shown above.  Several colors are on sale, but not all, but the price is still very affordable, and this is a great transition piece no matter where you live.  It runs a bit small, so if you order online, you might want to size up.  I was in the store, they didn’t have the olive, but I tried on a different color to determine what size I needed, and then ordered it when I got home.  The waist has a drawstring, so you can pull it in and not look so boxy.  Field jackets AND olive are both big fall trends, so this fits the bill all the way around.

Mustard yellow is also a big color for this season.  I have this shirt I purchased earlier in the summer from Loft, and have been saving it for the fall, because I felt like the color just exuded autumn.  I love the flutter sleeve detail.  The fabric very soft and flowy.  For cooler weather, this would look great underneath a denim jacket.

I bought this shirt last week at a local boutique, BohoBlu.  This was a warehouse sale item so is not available on their website, but bell sleeve tops continue to be very popular.  That’s a good thing, because I have several I have bought over the past year or so!  This one is also a very soft fabric, and will be a great top to pull out for dinner out when it’s chilly this fall.

One more item I have been wanting, but have not yet purchased, is a plaid waterfall vest, similar to below.  This particular one is from the Cato Fashions website, but I have seen them at other retailers as well.  I’m undecided what color scheme I want, so I plan to hit a few stores to see what I can find that will coordinate with other items I already own.  I think this could be worn over a long sleeve knit t-shirt, a turtleneck, a denim shirt, or even a fitted sweater.  Add some booties, or even riding boots, and you’ll have a great, classic looking fall outfit.  Plaid never goes out of style if worn correctly – it doesn’t have to look like a lumberjack!

I hope this gave you some ideas for some fall pieces you may not have already purchased.  I’ll be showing some of my favorite fall outfits in the coming weeks, as we finally are getting cool enough weather to wear them!  Have a great week everyone!

Super Soft Shirt

I love this super soft top I purchased at a local boutique I recently discovered called BohoBlu.  It’s a pale pinkish/purplish color with a heathered look, and I love the tie in the front, this is a big trend that seems to be continuing into fall.  You’ll see in the picture below the back also has some detail.  I like to look for comfortable tops that have some detail to keep them from being boring but still easy to wear and cool for hot weather here in NC.  I could have just thrown on a plain tank top or t-shirt, but having a top with some detail gives a simple outfit some style and interest.  I like that this one has the longer back as well, it pairs nicely with these Hue jeggings.  I am allowed to wear jeans to work, but in the summer jeans are so hot and I mostly wear dresses, but these jeggings are very lightweight and much more suitable for summer weather.  I like the layered necklace with this top too, the shorter one fills in the neckline and the longer one breaks up the solid color of the top.

How cute is the back of this top!

BohoBlu is a local boutique, with a focus on being affordable.  Boutique shopping can often be out of budget, but not at BohoBlu.  They carry many dresses, tops, accessories, and skirts/pants.  They have 6 locations, with a couple being near me, and I had been past them many times but never stopped in.  One day at work I decided to walk to the downtown location at lunch and check them out, and I am so glad I did.  I had a hard time choosing just a couple items to purchase.  If you are in the Piedmont Triad area, look them up and see if there is a location near you.  If you are not in this area, check out their website.  I’m looking forward to a few new fall pieces from BohoBlu.  They also carry curvy sizes, so please don’t think boutique shopping is only for the smaller sizes.

Have a good weekend!
